LSA Honors Social Scene

Hi all,
I am currently trying to decide whether or not to do the Honors Program... I was accepted but need to make my decision by May 1st.

I have heard a few generalizations about Honors kids, one being that there are a lot of potheads. Does this have any truth to it? (please be honest, no worries.)

Is honors "cliquey" the same way people say the RC is cliquey?
Are kids just as social as they are in general LSA?

THANKS!!

I definitely don’t think the proportion of potheads is any greater than that in regular LSA. I know honors students in both camps, but I would definitely think there is in fact a smaller proportion of potheads. Further, I have many friends in honors who ended up having nothing to do with the “honors social scene” for very long. Overall, I think the average honors kid is less social than the average non-honors kid. It comes with the territory of being smart, typically.

Honors students are actually smart. You’ll soon find out there are a number of less brilliant students at umich. It makes quite a difference knowing that you will around those who actually are good at school.

do you guys by any chance know the situation with pot and/or illegal drugs at U of M? Some of my friends said that pot really pervades the whole campus, others not so much. Are there certain clubs or certain places where people go to smoke pot? I’m hoping to avoid potheads in college.

There are no clubs that allow pot smoking. It is decriminalized off campus, but that does not mean that it is legally condoned. You will encounter many potheads at UM – a good proportion of kids smoke.

It’s funny, some students you’ll never know they smoke unless you ask them.

well thats good. I don’t want to be a part of any of that crap.

^amen brotha.
