Hello.
I was accepted to UMich EA (and very happy about it) and then I was prompted with an invitation to write an essay for the honors program. I did some time ago and, to my surprise, I was recently accepted to the program. Can someone inform me of some benefits that the honors program provides at all? It said in the e-mail that theres greater direct faculty contactdoes that include opportunities for research?

On an unrelated note, does AP Statistics place you out of anything whatsoever? On UMichs website, it shows credit, but not a corresponding course at all.

It might be too early to think about, but when do we decide on what classes to take our first semester and when do we sign up for housing? When do UROP applications go out?
Thank you! :D

There’s a greater chance of housing on central, which will be in East Quad (I could be mistaken) next year for honors students. It’s being renovated this year, so it’ll be really nice. The housing isn’t guaranteed, though. That’s really the biggest perk that’s offered.

You only get departmental credit for AP Stats (elective credit), it doesn’t place you out of anything. But from what I’ve heard, the intro to stats class isn’t too much trouble once you’re in (the waitlist gets really large).

In addition to the honors housing, there is a separate advising department for honors which probably gives more personal attention than the general LSA advising. Also certain discussion sections of large classes are reserved for honors students and the discussions are often led by professors rather than GSI’s. In addition, the honors classes are often smaller than the non-hours counterpart.

Going with honors is not a four year commitment. You can leave the program if it doesn’t work out.

You cannot sign up for classes until orientation but you can start thinking about it ahead of time. The schedule is not out yet but when it is you can look for it on the LSA course guide or Wolverine Access.
