i'm a hs senior admitted to lsa for this fall. i'd really like to work for nasa in the future, but i'm not sure what school would best suit for this. lsa would be for physics or astronomy, and engineering for aerospace engineering. since i need to choose what school by feb 1, i need to also decide which type of major. any opinions?

choose either. you can change major or double major.

If you want to work for Nasa, I would strongly recommend engineering over astronomy / physics. Many more positions for engineering vs. physics. And do not feel pressured into doing aero engineering. Many positions for mechanicals or electricals. In fact, ME or EE probably makes it easier to swing an internship with the aerospace defense companies that will make it easier to land a gig at NASA...but since the defense companies are likely to pay more, you might decide against NASA. My boss at my current co-op has an electrical engineering degree. He started out at GE Aerospace. After a few years there he wanted out, ended up getting an offer from NASA. Decided that money was more important and here we both are working for an oil company.

Definitely apply to Engineering. If you decide to change colleges, itis easier to transfer from Engineering to LSA than it is to transfer from LSA to Engineering. And you can always double major in Engineering and Astronomy. It would probably take an extra term (two tops) to complete such a double major.
