Colorado Law is good for Water Rights Law, Native American Law, and those interested in becoming a public defender (probably the best PD program in the nation).

There is an interesting regional law firm that does recruit at CU-Boulder law school: Holland & Hart has just over 500 attorneys spread out over 13 locations (including Washington DC). 3 offices in Colorado (Denver, Boulder, & Aspen), 2 in New Mexico (Santa Fe & Albuquerque), Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Montana, & 2 in Nevada (Reno & Las Vegas) and Anchorage, Alaska.

Check out the practice areas (water rights, gas & oil, corporate, litigation, etc.).

As far as “paradise” is concerned, lawyer’s paradise probably differs from a non-lawyer’s paradise. The best attorneys tend to work in Washington DC & in New York City. Chicago & San Francisco areas are also good locations in which to learn sophisticated law. (Very difficult to break into Wash DC even for those from Harvard Law and other top 10 law schools.)

Attending a regional law school will limit one’s opportunities so be sure before committing.

Holland & Hart’s Denver office lists 17 practice areas:

The CO legal market is saturated. Any kind of edge one can get is helpful.

As an example of networking, an alumni and partner of a local firm showed up during one of my 1L classes to solicit resumes for summer associates. Several classmates went on to work for that firm. Lots of adjuncts are partners and that was another well trod route to employment and/or a strong letter of rec. Local law firms sponsor mock trial team events and hire the best students from those events. Attendance at alumni events is robust. It’s very collegial here.

I’m sure it’s probably the same in other places, but if one wants to be in Colorado and cost is not an issue, then one of the local law schools is a great launching pad.

Thank you both so much for this great information!!

On “lawyers’/non-lawyers’ paradise”'- agree it depends on how you define both of those!

The lawyer folks I’ve talked to there seem to indicate (some of them) that there is more of a work life balance emphasis (as compared to the east coast, e.g.)
