Phoenix,

You already found out about where you are living? I filled out my accommodation form the same day I was admitted and I put Grosvenor House as my first choice. I really hope to get in there!! I have heard it's the best place to live at LSE. Would you like to comment on that psmyth. What are the other good dorms at LSE?

Northumberland house is also really good and is close to Trafalgar square (about 10 minutes away from LSE). High Holborn is aabout 5 minutes from LSE but it is kinda lousy. I have also been to Bankside which is nice but really big and Butlers Wharf is supposed to be good. Not that much info on the other dorms.

I also received my dorm offer about a week after I got my acceptance but I hear that is rare. Not sure why I got it so soon.

I made sure to fill out my accommodation form first thing once I saw that I had been accepted. I talked to someone in the dept. today at LSE and they said that I should hear something about my housing situation within 4 weeks. I was a little worried that I would be at a disadvantage since I was on the waiting list for awhile, but they said that's not the case.

I guess it is some sort of lottery system them use to determine who gets housing? They said that only 60% of grad students get university accommodation, so I definitely hope I can get it. Psmyth and Phoenix, do you know of anyone who didn't get LSE housing? If so, what did they end up doing instead?

I know people that did not get LSE housing. But they did not want it and therefore did not apply for it. I know pf nobody who wanted a place in a dorm and did not get it. However, I do know people who did not get the dorm they wanted.

Most of my friends share houses with other students. One of them found it trough the LSE housing office and the other found it in a newspaper. They are all living in region 1 or 2.

They are both however paying about 20 pounds more than I am a week.

If you want really cheap I believe a small single in Holborn is the cheapest dorm.

I've read stories on the net of people who didn't get into residence, but the five people I know from my uni going to LSE have all gotten their residence places already. I received my acceptance in mid January, applied for residence in mid February and got my place mid March. The quotas page on the accommodation says 75% of first year postgrads that apply for residence get it. Just make sure you're flexible with sharing and stuff and they'll consider you for more res. halls.
