So, I got selected for the Liberal Studies Program, with a choice of spending my freshman year in either Florence, Paris, or London.

I'm pretty pleased with this, as I was expecting an outright rejection from NYU. At the same time, I'm a little confused and worried about a couple technicalities.

First of all, in the e-mail, there is a link which leads you to a page where you can formally request an offer of admission to LSP. This is also where you choose which site you want to study at your freshman year.

However, in bold letter on that page, there is this:

NOTE: Liberal Studies students who wish to enroll in the freshman program at a global site must be eighteen years of age on or before the date of their travel to the site for the purposes of study.

I'll be 18, but a friend of mine with similar stats who has yet to hear back from NYU won't be.

So, does this mean he is ineligible for LSP, and if he gets rejected from CAS like I did, that's it? Or will NYU accept him into LSP and offer him the choice of attending the NYC campus his freshmen year? Or better yet, will they offer him the European sites and not even check his age?

Thanks.

They will DEFINITELY make sure he is of age before he accepts an international site. He would have to apply for a visa to study for a year in another country (France, in particular, has strict visa laws) and there would be no way to skirt around the fact that he wouldn’t be 18.

As for your other questions, you’re better off anonymously calling the Admissions Office and asking, because it’s a funky situation that probably does come up, but not often.

Look at the “Dreams do come true” thread. I think that poster has an answer to your question about being offered NYC for an under 18.

missamericanpie-

Yeah, its a really undesirable situation. But looking at the “dreams do come true thread”, the author was offered the three European cities for LSP, and he is under 18. So it seems they don’t check an applicant’s age before offering him Florence, Paris, or London as choices.

Is it feasible that after this offer is made and an under 18 student accepts to go abroad, they could withdraw the offer and send him to NYC instead?

They offered it by mistake. I called them and they’re like its our mistake. We shouldve checked the birthdate again. You’ll have to accept the NYC site. Thats what i wanted. so yay for me. But you cant take the other sites if youre under 18.
if youre under 18, NYC for sure

Did you friend even get LSPd yet?

sherryy-

Nope, hasn’t even heard back from NYU yet. Is this a bad sign? Have all LSP’d applicants gotten the email already? There’s no way to know is there, I’m just nervous. We have been planning to attend college together, and NYU is the best college either of us applied to…

Thanks for your help sherryy.

nah man i dont think it’d matter
