Now that a majority of LSP students already received their acceptance letter, I feel it's time to make an accepted stat thread.

Just gpa, standardized test scores, nationality, notable ec's, etc and congrats to all who were accepted and good luck to those who weren't notified yet

gpa uncalculated (primarily Bs, with As)
sat; 650, 640, 650
act; 31 (36/34 in english/reading)
very very white european

although i’m sad i was not admitted straight to gallatin, i understand that sadness is primarily a feeling of not being “good enough” rather than not getting into the school itself. i almost think LSP might be better for my overall college experience in terms of preparation. my one regret is asking my english teacher from junior year to write me a recommendation. because i transferred to a boarding school last year, my scholastic efforts were lacking as i attempted to familiarize myself with the general workings of the school. i suspect that teacher did not rant and rave about my mad english skillz, and with NYU’s emphasis on writing, i’m fairly certain she might have been a main factor in my getting LSPd. but hey! it’s still NYU, what more could i ask for??

i made a facebook group for anyone officially going to LSP, just search “LSP 2014” on fb and it’s the only group there. i know that’s tragically lame of me, but i like meeting people before huge events (…like starting college)

my school simply refuses to calculate them. because our classes are so often beyond the CP level (my history class uses the yale textbook) the school feels it would not be accurate to calculate GPAs. Especially because APs are only offered in Languages, math, and selected sciences. what my school DOES present for colleges is a “school profile” which contains a list of the final grades for all students enrolled in a class.
another reason is that calculating GPAs creates even more competition that what already exists. and, obviously, because GPAs are not calculated, we do not rank students either.

my school is not the only school that does this. many of the boarding schools (and other prep schools) in the New England area do not calculate any kind of ranking… just because of the competitive nature of their students. (not to say it isn’t competitive at any school other than these… it’s just because these are private institutions that they have the option of not calculating them).

long winded, sorry. approximation would be between 3.0 and 3.25

That’s really cool mmarsh, I am actually interesting in Journalism, International Relations, and Photography at NYU too, but I applied to CAS instead of Gallatin because I mostly want to major in Journalism. Which one do you think you will major in after you complete your LSp requirements?

Question: Lets say we applied to Gallatin ED, but we get LSPed. Would we have gotten that in the mail already? Or is it only the people who applied ED for LSD who have gotten their letters?

You can’t apply for LSP. You apply to whatever school you want to go to ED then the board decides whether to accept you, put you in LSP program, or reject you. I don’t really know how long they send out LSP letters (I got my on Monday but people have been getting them since Thanksgiving) Sooo I hope I helped :)
