Rec letter and transcript received today (finally). Now the wait!
Hi everyone, I received a call from LSU on Oct.24 asking to speak to my daughter and I replied I was her mother.
She informed me she was from the financial aid scholarship office and asked my daughters highest test score and GPA. She than informed me they would be able to offer her a 4000.00 scholarship over the next 4 years and if she got a higher SAT score the reward would go up. I asked her “Does that mean she got accepted?” and she replied yes ma’am she did and I should receive something in the mail with her scholarship info within a week. Well it has been 2 weeks and now Im nervous what if she didn’t get accepted. I told my daughter and she was so excited but Im worried because her portal does not say she has been accepted yet. I did call back the number to make sure it was LSU and it was, but I do not want to call because I don’t think she was suppose to tell me that she got accepted over the phone and I do not want to get anyone in trouble. Has this happened to anyone else? Thank you
I still haven’t heard anything and I’m well within the honors/scholarship range. I called about a week ago and they said they make decisions based on applications were received and that since I applied in mid-September it would be about 2-4 weeks. I’m kinda nervous about honors and all that but nothing we can really do.
@danmo I wish! Haven’t gotten any calls from Financial Aid or Admissions. Application was sent in late August and all supporting documents were received by late September. Since the process is new, I really don’t have any idea what their scholarship threshold is. I was told that they no longer use the previously published SAT/ACT scores as scholarship criteria (specifically Texas Tiger) and look at students holistically to award scholarships. My DS is retaking SAT in December to increase his chances of receiving scholarship money.
We have had no further communication since the acceptance email on October 16. I believe my daughter’s stats are good enough for Ogden admission and for some type of scholarship offer but we have heard nothing yet.
Just dropping by to vent LOL. Was really hoping to find out before Thanksgiving break but it doesn’t look like that will happen. Applied early to 5 schools and all schools are already requesting housing deposits and orientation registration. We are pretty much in a holding pattern but have probably already missed out on LLC at his #2 school since it’s first come, first serve. Thankfully, he’s not nearly as stressed as I am!
@laxmom2000 Are you waiting on acceptance letter or financial aid??? Someone posted that at LSU Kickoff they said scholarship offers should start being mailed around Thanksgiving.
Admissions. His application was sent in August and finalized in September
Honestly I’m pretty frustrated but not much I can do. I called admissions a bit over two weeks ago asking when I could expect a decision and they said they reviewed them according to when the application was submitted, and to expect a decision in two to four weeks. Into the second week I haven’t heard anything other than LSU sending me an email about Dallas alumni interviews today. What’s crazy is I’ll find out about UGA probably before LSU, and I submitted UGA three weeks after and UGA isn’t rolling.
Honestly, it is impossible to figure out the process!!! We too heard from other universities more quickly. Loyola was not only super fast with acceptance letter, the scholarship offers were also included then!!! Also accepted to Ole Miss, but are still jumping through hoops to fill out scholarship and honors college applications… Here is my daughters LSU timeline for reference. She applied on August 1. Her application was downloaded from CA on August 14. Rec letters were downloaded on August 14. School Report was downloaded August 28. Email from LSU to set up Admissions Portal came on September 10. Counselor Recomendation was downloaded September 14. Received email saying portal had been updated with acceptance letter on October 16. No further info has been sent via email or regular mail. No packet. And no PAWS ID or MyLSU information. Hope this helps.
Thank you! Just in wait and see mode. It’s a stressful time of the year!
DS just got his admissions offer today in an email! Geaux Tigers!
That’s great! Can you share when he applied? Admissions said they were doing it in order, but folks here applied later than my son and received acceptances long ago.
@psssthoy (above question)
Yea so one of my friends at school got their acceptance today and applied a month after me… I don’t know it’s kinda weird because with my stats this was my ultra-safety but I’ve already gotten into UGA honors with a scholarship so whatever happens happens.
@laxmom2000 DS submitted Common App on 9/20. Transcript and letter of recommendation were submitted 11/1.
Official packet with scholarship offers came in the mail today. Still nothing from Ogden.
@alipel That is great news about getting scholarship info now. My DS still has not gotten his acceptance. He has an alumni interview scheduled for Monday. I have no idea what impact that will have, but the notice said it could be helpful for admissions and scholarship considerations. It’s a :20 minute interview that he is going to over his Senior Football banquet, so I’m hoping he does well and makes it worth missing. He also took his SAT again today in hopes of boosting his chances at merit scholarships. He’s trying. I’m proud. This is a stressful (but happy!) time for all of us parents of seniors!
@laxmom2000 Good luck on the interview!!! This college application experience has definitely been quite a ride!!! Uncharted waters for this first timer!!!
@alipel Was the scholarship offer a separate letter included with the acceptance package? My daughter received her acceptance in the mail yesterday (acceptance to Ogden was listed in the letter too), but no scholarship information. She didn’t receive her acceptance email until mid-October, so maybe she is a little later in the queue. I’m pretty sure she has the stats to be offered some type of scholarship and I’m wondering if it wasn’t sent or if we somehow missed it.
