Aaaah so you aren’t poor. Okay lol.

It would actually be cheaper for me to attend Tulane than LSU or even LA Tech.

Sleepy, you better check your rankings. Tulane Business School is ranked 54 by USNWR. LSU: 62. Further, even if you had to pay full price at Tulane it would be worth it in the long run over a degree from LSU.

It depends on which rankings you check ;). I agree that Tulane is a bit better, but I don’t think it’s better enough to justify the price.

If I went to Tulane, I would end up spending about $90,000 versus $24,000 at LSU. Eight spots on the USNWR isn’t worth the nearly fourfold difference.

According to BusinessWeek, the mean salary for an LSU business school graduate is $47,000. At Tulane it’s $52,000. Go ask anyone in business and they will tell you that two or three years out of school, pay becomes based on work experience and not where you went to school. More importantly, where you go to grad school is much more important. I plan on getting an MBA after my bachelor’s degree, and the $66,000 I save will go a long ways toward paying for that.

I’ll prolly go to Emory anyways, which is 5th I believe.

I find c3606’s logic extremely difficult to follow. 64K for 8 spots on some arbitrary ranking list? That makes absolutely no sense.

I was fortunate enough to get the Chancellor’s Alumni award last year, which covers room and board as well. Only 10 students get it, I have to say it was a minor miracle. I only got it after initial receipients rejected LSU.

I bet it is much more competitive this year as the economy has people looking for cheaper options. I guess I was ahead of the curve in realizing it is insane to pay 200 K when you can attend college for pretty much nothing.

“I find c3606’s logic extremely difficult to follow. 64K for 8 spots on some arbitrary ranking list? That makes absolutely no sense.”

That ranking list is one of the most absurd things I’ve ever seen. If you want to work in any investment related field the two schools aren’t even close to being in the same league. They’re literally worlds apart. Tulane >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LSU in every business field other than internal auditing.

MonStar, do you happen to be a cheerleader for Tulane?

Do you have any statistics to back up that claim?

Average starting salary seems to have some weight to me, and that does not signify worlds apart to me.

And I should point out the rankings you guys are talking about are for the MBA graduate school program. I would agree that going to LSU for an MBA is a complete waste of time and wouldn’t carry much weight, but for undergrad? Not a big difference. No one is going to name you CEO because you have a bachelor’s degree from Tulane.

So basically, if a BS is the end of the line, it does not justify paying an extra 64 k, and if it is not and you want to pursue an MBA or other graduate study, then nobody will care about your undergrad anymore.
