Lucid Dreaming

Has anyone ever done it? I know I've done it before but it was before I really knew what it was.

I want to try an experiment this summer where I try to make myself lucid dream. Once I am successful, I'm curious to see what all I can do in my dream. If you think about it, the possibilities are endless in theory. Should be really cool.

Google "Lucid Dreaming" if you don't know what I'm talking about.

This really intrigued me but I never gotten time to really practice.

On the times I DO know I’m dreaming, oh man I"m flying and spawning women everywhere. But 90% after I wake up I forget about it and slowly remember traces throughout the day.

They say keeping a dream journal will help you remember it. Huh all those hours of sleep could be useful.

Happened a couple times.

I’m an insomniac so I tend to be very self-aware when I’m going to sleep. REM sleep feels really weird when you’re conscious.

I bet it does. I’m really fascinated by dreaming. That and memory. Probably going to do some undergraduate research on it when I get to college.

But for now I’ll have to settle for unofficial experiments in my free time. haha

Have you guys ever dreamed and then wake up, only to still be dreaming, and wake up for real and can’t move like your paralysed. This happened last week and I couldn’t move at all.

^ This happened to me a lot of times. You mind woke up but your body didn’t. You only have enough energy to be somewhat conscious and barely open your eyes, but try to force yourself to exert as much energy as possible at once to make your body move.

Yea I tried doing that, I kept telling myself to move. It wouldn’t budge, next thing I see spirits, and a hear loud humming noises, I felt like I was dead. I see a white light then I’m awake like nothing ever happened.

Tried it extensively over the summer, not much success :frowning: I would do reality checks all the time, write my dreams in a dream journal, and tried WILDing (wake induced lucid dream, look it up) seemingly like 5 million times. It always seemed like I got so close, but I never quite made it.

Funnily enough, since I stopped actually trying to lucid dream, I’ve actually had like 5 lucid dreams or so throughout the school year. It’s easiest to realize you’re dreaming during nightmares in my experiences. Once you become lucid, the most difficult thing is to maintain control because you usually become so excited that the dream starts to disappear. If you ever find yourself in that situation, just breathe slowly and count to 5 or 10. That usually works for me.

Good luck of you try to pursue it. It was a long and frustrating journey that amounted to pretty much nothing for me x) But it could be different for you! :)

Edit: ^^^Yeah, I’ve had that as well. It’s known as sleep paralysis and people have been known to have some terrifying hallucinations when waking into sleep paralysis. It’s happened to me several times, and luckily I haven’t had any scary hallucinations, but the feeling of not being able to move is absolutely terrible. It’s like you feel the greatest urge to turn on your side, but you can’t. It’s a horrible feeling D:

^I know, like a force is pushing you down, and you try to move but you can’t. I think I need to see a doctor because lately I can’t sleep and when I do I either get paralysis or I jump out of my bed like a crazy person and act out my dreams.

That’s because that your mind is still attempting to dream. Because you’re conscious but low on energy, your mind wants to rest so you’re essentially half dreaming; any thoughts or experience you have will this be far more pronounced and realistic.

That’s just an educated guess.:)

Yes, I have. I can’t do it regularly but it still happens occasionally. It’s amazing. I’ve also had a dream within a dream before where I’m dreaming then wakeup in the dream and proceed to think I’m awake only to realize that it’s just another dream.

inception/10

^I’ve had multiple levels of that. After about the thrid time I recognized that pattern in-dream and then it became a lucid dream.

When you wake up to find yourself unable to move your body, it’s because you were just in REM sleep. When having REM, your body is paralyzed so that it will not carry out any of the actions of your dream (which could be dangerous).

I discovered it last year and really could never master it. I had a few but they weren’t really vivid. Thanks for making me remember about it though, I should get back into it.

Haha, we just talked about this in psychology today. I’ve done it a couple times, but it’s mostly random. Usually it’s during dreams where I’m getting chased. I realize I’m dreaming because I can’t run correctly. I always feel like I’m running through Jell-O or something (don’t really know how to describe it). Then I just tell myself it’s ok because I’m just dreaming. I’ve had that happen too, FunStuff. It really is very neat.

bump. 10char

It happens to me a lot. I’ve never practiced how to do it or anything. It’s just sometimes, if I’m in a really bad dream, I can close my eyes in the dream and when I open them I wake up. Other times I will do whatever I want and think to myself “It’s okay, there’s no consequences right now.” I guess I don’t know I’m dreaming per se. I don’t think to myself “oh, this is a dream, I can do whatever I want”, but somehow I know that it isn’t real life either.

@Bry, I can’t run in my dreams, either. I feel like I’m trying to run underwater. It’s really quite annoying.

@FunStuff, I’ve never had the “dream within a dream” experience, unfortunately. Sounds interesting, though.

has anyone ever known they were dreaming, tried to wake up, but was ‘paralyzed’ and couldn’t move of even open their eyelids? happens to me quite often.

something else cool i noticed was that a lot of times when i fall asleep listening to my ipod, the music is incorporated into my dreams. like i dreamt that i was at a concert, and i woke up and that song in my dream was playing on my ipod.

^^Yes, that’s exactly how it is! It’s really scary when I’m in the dream until I realize I’m dreaming.
