Luck at the Airport...

Hey everyone, I'm an incoming freshman at the George Washington University, and i'm majoring in International Affairs/Politics. At the airport recently I met a really nice lady who turned out to be a Senior Official working for the Justice Department. In DC, connections and networking are pretty much essential to building a solid career, so I saw this as a good push in the right direction towards getting some kind of internship or at least a mentor when I start school in the fall. She gave me her card, and told me to contact her.
The next day I emailed her with a few niceties (ie - it was nice to meet you, looking forward to talking again). And she replied the same way, also saying that we should meet up for lunch or something once I got settled in DC. I have a few questions though about what to do next though....

How soon should I email her again in the fall? As soon as school starts? A little later?
What exactly should I say in the email to remind her about her offer about lunch and helping me get situated in the city?

I'm eager to get a part-time job or land an internship in the fall, so should I maybe ask her about helping me in that area? Would that seem too forward or no? She's pretty high up in the Justice Dept, so i'm assuming she can perhaps set me up somewhere...

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Email her once you get settled in. So probably not your first week or two of school, but probably within a month of getting there.

kudos to you for staying in touch and getting your first of many networking opportunities…once you settle in, do it ASAP before she forgets who you are

good luck!

Wow, that is really lucky. Keep in touch and take up her offer for lunch after you’ve learned something in your political science classes…gives you something to talk about.

Wow, great job!

Definitely follow this.

Alright, thanks for the responses! (:
Anyone have any idea how I should go about inquiring about a possible internship?
