Lwt college rowing

I'm a sophmore and I want to row for a d1 school. I'm a little on the shorter side at 5"6 and 135lbs but I can pull 7:15 2k and 40:11min 10k. I've made it to youth nationals in lwt4 with 1 freshm; 2 sophs and a junior,

what are my chances of being recruited and what does it take?

Hi John. If you do a search for “lightweight rowing”, you will find a lot on this forum on the topic. I do caution you though, that if you go back a few years, the 2k times required for recruiting then were slower. The times are getting faster every year. As far as lightweight D1 recruiting, my experience is mostly with the Ivies, and a couple of other D1’s. What I have seen is that these top schools are looking for lightweights to pull in the low-mid 6:30’s. That’s not to say other D1’s would not recruit guys a bit slower, but I would say not much slower. The field is very competitive. Some of the college programs will give guidelines on their websites about what they are looking for. As far as your height, it is possible that you could have a growth spurt, so I am not going to discourage you as a Sophomore for something entirely out of your hands. I have seen a relative grow 5 inches in one year! Good luck.
