I heard of some people lying about their position in a club because our school doesn't keep a record of these things, and they don't believe colleges will check. What do you guys think about that?

Well...club participation will only be a VERY minor part of your application because colleges are also aware of the fact that prospective candidates can lie about their positions. Therefore, you might be able to get away with lying...but I still believe honesty is the best policy...after all, you might fool the world, but you're still lying to yourself, your conscience, and your integrity (if any of those matters to you, that is).

Exactly, there have been a lot of threads like this where a lot of people said you should tell because they think the person got accepted because of what s/he lied about, but I really doubt changing a club position would change your whole rating as to get you in if you were gonna be rejected.

Or you can send a note to the GC saying isn't it AMAZZING that the Widget Club has 5 members and 6 Presidents!!! What a great club!!!

If no one else is applying to the same selective school you are, or even if they are but they didn't participate in the same clubs, it's possible. If you lie like saying "I was Prez in Bowling Club" and you weren't even a member, then that's a stretch.. but if you were VP and changed it to Prez I don't think its' a big deal, it really wouldn't be ^ that exaggerated

What about VOLUNTEERING Services? I heard tons of people lie about that crap, ne?

I disagree. Leadership in clubs is defintely a vital aspect to making a well rounded candidtae

Not if you hold miscellaneous jobs in, let's say, 15 clubs. Club participation is definately important if you can devote yourself to a few clubs that you are very very passionate about. However, the subject of this post is about lying about club position, which will demonstrate relatively lower interest in the clubs. If you really are interested and passionate, why would you want to lie?

The whole point of the admission process is for the adcom to see if you would fit in. If you get rejected, you won't fit in. People need to stop thinking that they will or have to get in. What is the point of attending Harvard or MIT if you are miserable and flunking classes?

BTW, whenever someone gets caught cheating or lying about something important, specially on college apps, I love laughing and teasing them. :)
