Lying about extracurriculars???

Hi everyone, I currently run a 501©(3) outside of school and a moderately big club on my high school campus. Recently, one of my club members has been actively telling people (including adult stakeholders in our community) that she started the 501©(3) and that she is a prominent part of our club leadership.

The problem is, she’s never been to any of our 501©(3) meetings/events nor does she hold a position in our club leadership. I put in a lot of hours and work into running both and, therefore, find this really offensive that she’s claiming credit and recognition.

I’m getting a little worried that she’ll exacerbate this further and talk about this on her college apps, as there doesn’t seem to be a way to verify activities like high school clubs. This could potentially be bad because I know we’ll end up applying to at least 2-3 of the same schools. Won’t this look a little suspicious to the admission committees? Any advice would be extremely helpful.

It shouldn’t cause any issues, but if you really want to throw dirt at her, email her counselor. I also would want to throw her under the bus if I were in your shoes.

Yes, ask your guidance counselor to tell her to “cease and desist”. You could tell her yourself, but do it nicely.

@Groundwork2022 @FireBlock1 Okay, thank you for the advice. I think I’ll talk to my counsellor about it. I would talk to her personally, but she’s very stubborn, and when problems like this arose before, she flat out denied it ever happening. :frowning:
