i have a friend who got into upenn early this year who (i wouldnt say outright lied but wasn't entirely truthful) put east asian studies as her major when she was actually more interested in (but again not totally committed to) business. and knowing that wharton is really selective, she decided to just put an "easier" major just to get into upenn.

does this really help...?? i really didnt think colleges emphasized your prospective major since people end up changing majors anyways...

but then again, my college counselor also said something along this line about how if i apply to jhu with a prospective major in med then i have less a chance of getting in than someone who applies as a prospective art history major or something....

Though it is dishonest, it can help in certain circumstances. One big example is with Cornell. Cornell’s College of Arts & Sciences is harder to get into than their College of Human Ecology. I know several students who have gotten into the CHC as policy analysis and management or human development majors and then switched their majors to something like history, government, English, a foreign language, etc.

People change majors all the time, but my guess is moving into wharton is going to be a little tougher. I guess she can show up, say she is an econ major, and take the same first year courses as someone at wharton. I tend to think it may not be all that easy.
