Can anyone give me more info on it? Is it worth it? I don't really know anything about it, but it sounds interesting. Would it be better than a normal chem major from MSU, or do I have this all wrong? Thanks!

Most of your classes will be in the same building. The professors have offices in the building. The classes are smaller. The professors teach, not TA’s, but they do have Learning Assistants that handle the recitation classes where you go over homework and do quizzes. The Learning Assistants also have office hours in the building for helping with the homework. Your cafeteria is open 7 days a week. You can take Calculus in 3 semesters instead of 4. There are lots of jobs and internships in the science field while going there. You really get to know the people there. Very friendly people. You will have some classes only Lyman Briggs have. My son really likes Lyman Briggs.
You don’t have to stay the entire 4 years You can move out and switch to regular MSU classes if you want to.

Is it harder to get into Lyman Briggs than it is to the rest of MSU? I applied for premed, but emailed admissions with a change of intended major. Do they have ACT or GPA requirements to get in?

It’s not hard to get into Lyman Briggs in the sense that you need a high GPA/ ACT etc. It is just difficult in that it is first come/first serve and by this time it is probably more than full. Keep trying, I’m sure you go on a waiting list or something :).

A lot of pre-med students go to Lyman Briggs. Also, I heard, pre-vet. I heard a few years back that they do have waiting lists if it gets full but I think you still have a good chance of getting in. Good luck.

:( I hope I get into it. If I don’t know can I the next semester or year?

Yes. People are constantly dropping out and switching majors :). Odds are that if it is full it will be open by next summer before or during AOP.

You could try emailing the admissions rep for Lyman Briggs [url=<a href=“Lyman Briggs College | Michigan State University”>Lyman Briggs College | Michigan State University]Lyman Briggs - Future Students: Applying to LBC/url to see if there is still room and how you could go about changing your program, or for just more information :).

Good luck!

Don’t give up! It is only December. They don’t really know who all is moving out until next spring. Things move very fast at MSU. I know someone who was on a list for wanting a room in another dorm and figured he had no chance because he was number 60-something on the waiting list for that dorm but he got a room a few weeks later during winter break.

shyanne, did they really give him a number? Lol, I’ve never heard of that. I always thought it was a myth.

Yes, they told him how many were on the list ahead of him. Maybe it depends on the dorm as to whether they tell you how many are ahead of you.

Pardon my ignorance, but what’s AOP?

Oh sorry lol. AOP is academic orientation program. Its what you go to in the summer overnight for orientation and to choose your classes :). The word is second nature now and I forget sometimes that I didn’t know it less than a year ago.

Ohhh, I see very cool. I talked to my girlfriends brother who goes there and he said holmes dorms are a lot better than brody. How bad is brody?

Ashes, I’ve never lived in either one. The main thing about Brody is that they are freshmen dorms which tend to party alot a just not be as nice as other dorms (this is from friends who live there). However, they’re getting a brand new caf which is supposed to be very nice. I honestly don’t know anything about Holmes, sorry :(.

Somewhere there is a thread where someone described all the dorms on here. I’ll find it and link it back to you :).

Here’s one I could find (the 2nd post down), describes Lyman Briggs a bit too http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/michigan-state-university/412310-dorms.html?highlight=dorms hope that helps :).

Thanks! I emailed lyman Briggs to see what they say. The only issue is I’m not accepted yet, so it’s going to be a problem I think. LOL. I’m rather confident I’m going to get In though. Think I’ll fond out by Christmas? All my stuff was in by nov. 18th.

Hmm, it’s tough to say since there’s only a few business days left and there was Thanksgiving. I’m going to say probably not but keep your fingers crossed! Good luck!!

:( ok, thanks. I’ll here back from u of m by the 24th, so I’m atartingvto get anxious… I think my number one is state right now, if I get into lyman Briggs.

Well try to enjoy your holidays in the meantime. No use worrying, it’ll come when it comes :). Hope you hear good news from both UMich and MSU when they do come.

Haha, thanks, I shall try, and you have a good holidays too. I’ll post Lyman Briggs response when I get it. Thanks for all of your help!
