M.S. in ChemE without undergrad ChemE

I am wondering a few things about ChemE.

Is it worth it to get the M.S. for Chemical Engineering?

Would this be possible for me? I am majoring in Chemistry, when I am done, I will have a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in BioChem.

I am a good student, I will plan on keeping a 3.7 GPA, extra currics, etc, possibly an internship.

While I don’t know if it’s possible I think you’d definitely want to at least do math up through differential equations, and be sure to get classes on fluids and maybe some extra thermodynamics. Take a look through the admissions criteria for a couple of random ChemE departments at schools you’d consider attending and see what their policies are.

Slick21,

I believe it is possible for you to go from Chemistry B.S. to ChemE M.S… There will be prerequisites that you will have to fulfill. RacinReaver is right about the math courses. I would suggest asking a ChemE department about the classes they would like to see in your undergraduate training before considering you for their grad school. Be proactive and plan. You may be able to save a semester or year between undergrad and grad by fulfilling the necessarily courses before you graduate.

I am getting a M.S. in Biomedical engineering and have a B.S. in Exercise physiology with some prerequisite classes in between. It wasn’t the quickest route but as long as I like the road I’m on and where it is taking me, I’m fine.

Find what you like to do and make it work.
