MA in Econ first then MS in Financial Engineering

Hi All

I am a 4th year right now and I am thinking about applying to grad schools.

My goal is to get into one of the top grad schools in MS Financial Engineering

I am a Statistics major with a focus on mathematics

but my GPA isn't so hot...

However, I do have a research experience with Google and Ford and quite some internships in

the key department of a commercial bank (kind of like investment department, which is really difficult for an undergrad, even for a grad, to get into.)

My plan now is to go do an MA in a CSU either in CSU LA, SJ State, or SF state.

Since my undergrad GPA isnt so hot, I want to show to those grad schools that I am academically mature enough now to take my classes seriously. (So they dont just judge from my grades in Undergrad.)

Then I will also take a few required/important classes in Stanford, UCLA, and UCB. (Depending on where I got in I will go to the closest one)

I know I will have 2 pretty good rec letters.

I havent taken the GRE yet, so i cant say anything about it.

Does it sound like a good plan? Any suggestions?

It sounds good. Let me know how that works out for you.

Why you want to do MS in Financial Engineering? Because I make my research now between it and MBA?

@arzksh

Simply because I have an interest in it
(And they make quite a bit too)

Ask on quantnet https://www.quantnet.com/</a>.
Tons of people there have done MFEs and they’ll in general have a better idea than a lot of people here.

Best of luck to you though.

Why you want to get an MA in econ first? Because you think it’ll boost your chances of getting into an MS program for financial engineering? Econ programs are pretty competitive too.
