Hello!

Is it worth the extra cash/year of school to get an MFA, instead of just an MA for visual arts? I've heard that an MA is good for switching careers, whereas MFA is geared towards folks who want to teach.

As background - if it helps - I have an undergraduate degree in political science and experience in advocacy/non-profit work. But art has always been my first love, and I'm finalizing my portfolio to apply to graduate illustration programs. Eventually, I hope to do political cartoons/illustration for socially conscious publications or causes.

Also...does anyone have thoughts on the California College of Arts? I'm a Southerner who just found out about the school today. I'm specifically interested in their focus on social justice through art.
Plus, it's in San Francisco. Could my bleeding heart want more?

Thanks so much! Happy New Year!
