I'm going to be a freshman studying nuclear engineering in the fall and I'm not sure which calculus to take. I took AP Calc AB and BC in high school, and I got a 5 on Calc AB and a 4 on Calc BC (with a 5 AB subscore). Do you think that 2313 would be too hard for me since I only got a 4 on the BC exam? I'm just worried I won't do well with all the adjusting to college and all that stuff, and I want to apply for the honors college (and I'm worried that if I take BC I might not do as well). But I'm not sure if 2312 would be too easy and I don't want to waste my time/money, either. What do you think? Thanks!

Go ahead to calc 3. you’re not going to miss anything, and calc 2 is the least fun. its not worth taking a class if you just need to review sequences and series.

Okay I agree I think ill go with calc 3. Thanks for the advice!

I’m a uf freshman about to enter the fall and I am currently registered for Calc 3. I scored a 5 on both the calc bc test and the ab subscore. I was wondering how your experience was taking calc 3 ThatJerseyKid.

Calc 3 wasn’t too hard for me, but I had a good prof. A lot of it depends on that. But I think you’ll do fine with it. They’ll try to convince you to start in calc 2 or before (especially if your in engineering) but I wouldn’t listen, it’s just a way for them to make more money. Definitely invest in study edge though, the reviews are extremely helpful (I didn’t discover it until after my first exam.) Google it and you’ll see.

If the calc sequence is anything like it was back when I went to school (had to climb up a hill, in the snow…in Florida’s 100+ degree temps…without ever winning a SEC football championship…blah…blah…), then Calc 2 was much harder than Calc 3 (and Differential Equations). Calc 2 was one of the first “weed out” classes.

The real test to determine if passing on Calc 2 was a mistake, will not be Calc 3, but your latter courses. If you do pass on Calc 2, be prepared to put in extra work, as needed, down the road.

With all that being said, my Calc 2 instructor was so bad, I wished I had skipped it… :)

Good Luck

I heard that for some people calc 3 is easier than calc 2. I took calc 2 at UF, and I thought it was pretty challenging. So, I would go ahead and take calc3 as well if I were you.

In my experience, Calc 3 was much easier than Calc 2, BUT it required knowing all the integration techniques from Calc 2 well in order to BE that easy in the first place. ;)

Calc 3 just deals with 3D forms of Calc 1 and 2 stuff, meaning you use the X, Y, and Z coordinate system, instead of just X and Y. You DON’T do any sum/series stuff from Calc 2, which I had the most trouble with, so that was a huge plus.

USE STUDY EDGE. I’ve heard both of the Calc 3 profs are hard/awful.
