Because I will likely be getting a 3 or better on my AP Calculus AB exam, I get credit for the class required to take Calculus 2 (MAC 2512). I'm curious if anyone knows what book the school uses. Currently we are using a 6th edition of a calc book writen by Edwards (UF Professor) Calculus of a Single Variable: ISBN 9780395885789

Also...would I be taking Calculus over the summer because I was admitted during summer term, or is that not enough time for a calc class!!

also how are the math teachers there? I hear I should look at their pictures before choosing them...if you know what I mean...

Yeah, that is the book Calc 1 and Calc 2 are currently using. I don't have any advice on taking Calc over the summer, though I would recommend only taking that class in order to focus on it solely.

I had Kozinski for Calc 1 and he is now teaching Calc 2. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! If you get into his class, drop it and switch professors! You will regret it if you have him.

PS: The Asian professors are not that bad, though sometimes they are a little difficult to understand. They are usually very nice, however. =)

The aforementioned UF professor (Edwards), believe it or not, usually teaches MAC 2512, so he should know what he's talking about.
Strangely enough, he doesn't use his own book for the class. I guess because the math department makes everyone use the same book.

I was not at all happy with the recommendations they made to me at preview. They also recommended that I didn't take MAC2512, but I did anyway and I am now doing fine in MAC2313.
They also won't let you(not recommend against the preview staffer I had wouldn't sign the form to approve anyone taking CHM2210) take CHM2210 in your first semester of freshman year. I got stuck repeating CHM2046(had AP credit, got an A and now I am doing fine in CHM2210. I wold have done just fine in CHM2210 w/o repeating 2046 too.

Anyway, I had Edwards for MAC2512, he's a good teacher and explains things well. He used the Early transcendentals 5th ed, but by next fall he might be moving up to the 6th ed b/c I think some calc classes are using that now.

I have to agree with big_al. The preview people are trained to make you take the easiest class possible. "Oh you shouldn't jump ahead" and "Most people fail it." You are the best judge of your comfort level and not them. They keep telling people to take MAC1147 (precal) and CHM1025 (pre gen chem). 1147 is a waste of time. Most of the concepts you will learn you wont use until calc 3. If you took AP chem, 1025 is a waste. Classes lower than AP chem....its up to you if you feel you know chem well enough to go on.

uh but that's the thing. it's not for the preview people to tell other people what they can and cant take especially when it comes to them literally refusing to sign off on a class, even when you have the prereqs...its not like they are that much older...many of them are even sophomores
