Mac NMF

Mac is quite ambiguous about National Merit Finalist scholarships on their website. They say, "Macalester College National Merit Scholarships are awarded to National Merit Finalists who have designated Macalester as their first-choice college.". But they do not specify the amount of those scholarships.

Can anyone who was accepted this year (or in the last couple years) who was NMF please describe what kind of merit scholarship they received from Mac for this? Thanks!

I’m pretty sure I remember a brochure saying that it was either 2k or 3k per year.

We just came from a visit there last week, and the brochures are generic. They state there are scholarship, with no info. I believe that at one point Mac gave $5,000 per year to NMFs, but I think that was a few years ago. Now they have only the generic statement on the website and all brochures in admissions. I suspect they want some leeway to give what they want to without being locked in. I am just trying to get some info from NMF applicants on what that portion of their aid package looked like.

I think maybe this year’s applicants don’t have their FA packages yet, or are just getting them. So hopefully in the next few days some will have some info to share. Or maybe someone from last year (or a parent of a current Mac student) will have this info from the last year or two.

I get the NMF scholarship at Mac and I believe it’s 2k a year–I remember it working out that I was able to use all of it, whatever it was.

I got the NM Scholarship this year (I’ll be a freshman at Mac next year) and they’re giving me $6,000 per year for National Merit.
