I am going into mechanical engineering at Berkeley in the fall and I haven't picked a laptop yet. I am debating getting a MacBook Pro and just dual-booting it for the pc-only programs, or just going straight for a Sony Vaio SA? Because I don't know how hard dual-booting would be or if it's worth it...
Have any freshmen in mechanical engineering gotten the MBP? Also, if I do go with the mac, would a 13' or a 15' screen be better?

PC, and 15.6".

I say get the Mac, but look at VMWare or Parallels. It would be easier than dual-booting. On the other hand, note that there is a performance dive that isn’t there when you dual-boot.

Okay thank you! Does anybody know anyone in M.E. who uses a Mac?

I just had a vendor give us a demo on a MacBook Pro 15 inch i7 using Parallels. Let’s just say that I haven’t heard that many apologies about the demo being slow since the days of the Clinton scandal…

Hahaha so dual-boot if I get the Mac…def.

If it’s any consolation, dual-boot runs like a charm on the Mac.

That’s good to know…are you running engineering programs when you dual-boot?

I’m not in engineering; however, I’ve used the Windows operating system extensively on Macs. It runs just as smoothly as it would on any high-powered PC.

Alright great, I’m getting the pro today! Thank you for your help!
