My macbook is getting ready to die so I am looking for another computer. Deciding either a mac or lenovo/asus/ect. What would be easier to use and more cost efficient. I’m interested in gaming, but my laptop cannot handle it. Ideas?
Easier to use: Mac, Cost efficient: PC. Gaming: PC
If you really want to play one of those hi res games then get a desktop, but a laptop should handle most games.
If gaming is your game, you go PC. Especially with the release of Windows 10 (microsoft trying to correct the mistake of 8 and basically mostly reverting to 7 while revising the few good parts of 8 from what I understand), PC’s have a slight bit more going for them.
PC for gaming and cost efficiency. Mac is reliable and easiest to use.
As others have said, PC has it for gaming and cost efficiency (my Windows gaming laptop is about 2/3 the price of a lower-spec Macbook). If you want reliability, you can dual-boot Linux on it.
PCs do not get it on cost efficiency. I think what posters mean is that they are cheaper initially. Over the entire cost cycle (purchase, maintenance and support) Macs most often come out on top.
When you consider the overall cost of a college education and how important a tool your deck is, the extra cost of a Mac for most makes sense.
I can’t imagine risking something as important as a student deck just to play games.
Okay, I don’t think OP realizes what a can of worms this topic really is.
But anyway… First, find out what system your school uses. If your school is predominantly PC and you buy a Mac, the file storage is often so different that you can’t always transfer files using a flash drive or similar. You may also lose access to free or heavily discounted programs such as MS Office products. Also check within your department, because if you plan on doing any research they may have proprietary software or programs that only work with one system.
From what I understand PCs are preferred by gamers, partially because it is (or was until recently) possible to take a screwdriver to your machine and upgrade the graphics card or internal memory, if you know what you are doing. PCs are also cheaper and are really solid for other stuff you might be doing in college (word processing, simulations, etc)
Mac products have a reputation for being great at doing music and photo editing and other sort of artsy things. What most people don’t realize is that Mac OS is actually a Unix operating system (like Linux) with a special interface called Darwin. That makes Macs less vulnerable to viruses than PCs. Macs are also really user friendly.
In terms of reliability, I have had issues with reliability/memory loss on both systems. Either choice contains backup options, so that is really up to you.
Just trying to give you the arguments for each. It is mostly a personal decision based on what you want to do with it.
Depends on your major too. Some majors are mac oriented others are pc. And what games do you play? My macbook runs CS go, League, and HOTS perfectly fine.
