What are you getting?

CHAPINDAD--

Welcome to CC. My D has a PC laptop, but her roommate had a Mac. PCs seemed to be more prevalent on campus.

You may want to read Pomona's IT page: http://wiki.pomona.edu/bin/view/FAQ/ComputerBuyingGuide2.

Good luck!

We've discussed this on both myspace and facebook:

I think it really comes down to what you need and what you can afford. As a general rule, Macs are more reliable, run a lot more smoothly, have better software, but cost more and aren't quite as high performance (for video editing, heavy gaming)...you can buy Macs from Apple and get 10% off as a student...and right now a free iPod Nano too (up to $179).

Dell also offers student discounts on its website. You would use Pomona as the institution.

The third difference ("You can't do everything on a Mac..") in the Mac vs. PC section of Little Mother's link is now irrelevent with BootCamp. It's probably more accurate to now say that you can't do everything on a PC.

Apple's are actually better for video editing that PCs. PCs are better for games though. All major hollywood Studios use Macs for thier projects. Movies like Van Helsing were produced exclusivly using Final Cut Pro for the Mac

Is Final Cut Universal yet?

Yea it is.

With the newly released Mac Pro and a universal Final Cut Pro, I'd have to agree then.
