Hi,
I was wondering if there are mac users out there that can offer some advice. For example, did you need to buy MS windows or office in order to communicate with your professors or do class work? Did you need to email papers to professors using microsoft software or were you able to do it with the software on your mac. Were there/ are there compatability/communication issues?

Thanks,

Well, I’ve heard that some classes will need you to do some things on excel and the like. Also, Microsoft Word is still the universal document format. However, a lot of current students have told me that you can always use the computer at the library or whatever to get access to these programs.

I have a mac and I’m going to be buying the microsoft office just in case. It cost $90 if you buy it from WM, but that $90 will get you a software with 3 licenses so I’m sharing it with my friend. If you want you can be our 3rd person so it only comes out to $30. If you’re interested, send me a message :)

you don’t need windows

Office is useful, but you don’t need it. Appleworks can do the same functions (and save files so they are readable in Word). If you really need Microsoft Office, you can use it on the computers in the 24 hour computer labs. That said, i would suggest you get Microsoft Office, for the convenience of having it on your own computer.

so… yes, you should get Microsoft Office (for mac). No, you do not need Windows.

Yeah that is generally a poor idea, especially to be broadcasting it. The 90 dollars is worth it.

I called the Tribe Apple Center weeks ago and the girl I talked to said it would be ok. But I guess she was mistaken. Thanks for pointing that out! I hadn’t read that…I didn’t/don’t intend to do anything wrong :)
