What's the shakedown, especially in International Studies or Sociology programs? Comparisons of campus life, academic workload, etc. would be great too. Basically, I want to know everything.

You really can't go wrong with either school, though for the specific programs you cite, I would give the nod to Macalester. IMO, Carleton would be slightly preferred if your interests were English or maybe Math. Workload at both schools can be heavy, though it varies by department and professor. Can't really comment on social life, other than to say that students at both schools report that they find their own without a lot of difficulty. Macalester does have the resources of a city at hand, but Carleton's small town setting may make the student body a little more cohesive.

Spend all the time you want on this comparison, but I would not agonize over it. . you will likely be fine at either school.

thanks Brigid. Right now, I'm leaning towards Mac (location, incredible study-abroad, and international feel).

I decided Mac over Carleton due to the international atmosphere of Mac. Also, the location helped a bit.

Macalester >>>>>>>>>Carleton.

Macalester's atmosphere is friendly and inviting, and they have a large international program with tons of options. Also, Mac's in a great location.

Carleton's far away from everything and the people there are boring as hell. Also, they're incredibly elitist just because they know that they're the #4 liberal arts school. They can suck it.

Wow Visess. That was slightly biased.

But at least it was supported by empirical evidence.
