Hey guys,

Trying to find out which laptop to get for GW.

I'm thinking either the new 13 or 15 inch Macbook Pro, or a PC.

Which is more used/supported on campus?

Which one will you be getting?

General thoughts? I know the new 13 in. doesn't have the new processor that the 15 and 17's do, but the 17 is wayyyy too big. Right now I a 4 year old Compaq that's a 14 in.

have a great weekend everyone!!

Mac is the way to go. Not that PC won’t work, but MAC is more student friendly. Either one depending on your budget and taste will do. Most SMPA students prefer MAC though bc of the visuals. I hope it helps

get which ever one YOU personally like better or are more familiar with…honestly, i asked the same question going here…but it turns out that (from my own experiences here) neither computer seems to have an advantage here…u will see people with both macs and pc’s. perhaps its about 50/50 with each computer…i personally have a pc, and have been fine, i considered getting a mac, but im glad i didnt only bc im more comfortable with a pc and there hasnt been an advantage or disadvantage havin one compuer over the other…if u like macs, get a mac…if u like pc’s, get a pc…theres no clear advantage havin one or the other here.

regarding comment about SMPA students & computer choice.

can you tell me more about the benefits of having a MAC as an SMPA student?

i noticed that one of the courses is a digital media course which has a software requirement which is only available in MAC. (Final Cut Pro)

1stimemom: you got it! there are classes involving a lot of final cut stuff that having a MAC makes it look easy when compared to PC. It just reponds quicker to visual commands. If you aren’t in SMPA, either will be just fine.

thanks multi!

would love to hear from smpa students about Mac vs PC - if there are any out there on CC!

you are quite welcome, 1stimemom! I am happy to help you in this transition! Good Luck
