Macalester C vs Bates C

I was accepted to both, economics major. I am russian, want to have interesting college experience, have many opportunities after graduation... What are the major differences between the colleges? Academics, social life, after graduation opportunities...

anyoneee?
10 char

both r my dream schools…

These two excellent schools are so similar that it would make sense to choose based on cost. Travel-related concerns (such as distance from relatives or convenience of air travel) might favor one or the other. The biggest difference is that Minneapolis-St. Paul is about 100x larger than Lewiston, Maine. For that reason alone, I personally would lean toward Macalester. The Twin Cities would offer more entertainment, culture, and work opportunities.

The Macalester campus culture is built around internationalism. While you might be an anomaly as a Russian at Bates, you’d be a key asset in Mac’s core mission. And Lewiston is quite remote. The Twin Cities area has a population of over 3 million.

Minnesota and Maine are both far away from california and russia (where our family has homes) so that’s not an issue
I am torn between 2 schools because i feel like it might be easier to make friends at Macalester, but at Bates I might Americanize much faster, because people and culture there is much more traditionally American…
Would it be hard to have a good social life at bates?

But, America is diverse and internationalized, so being at Macalester is more representative of U.S. diversity. Also, being in a major city as opposed to an isolated area can help you really adjust to America. So, don’t write off Mac so quickly. It seems like it would be a great place for you to continue to adjust and flourish, that’s going to be most valuable to you in the long-run.

Nonresident aliens (“internationals”) comprised about 13% of Macalester’s entering class last fall. You still would be surrounded by many, many Americans there (and in the Twin Cities).

I think you would Americanize equally at either place. In this case I would give the edge to Macalester.

So is everyone saying I should go to Macalester because it´s easier to have a social life there?

Also, Bates is ranked slightly higher, will it make a difference when looking for a job or applying to grad schools?

Actually I’d like to know when did you get accepted by Macalester?
I am an international applicant from China but still haven’t been notified the decision yet…

i was accepted a week ago, but i live in us
