my EC's are bad. They are really weak, most of them also aren't very heavy commitments. How badly will this affect my chances? I learn japanese at home in my spare time, would that count at all? Any input and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Kevets

i'd say you're in.

Learning Japanese on your own will definitely count, especially at Mac. Obviously, your grades/test scores are good enough to make you competitive anywhere. In terms of your ECs, although they don't look terrible to me, if they're as bad as you say they are, then there might be a problem, as Mac seems to place a lot of weight on ECs as well as personality.

But yeah, I concur with Calz88. You're probably in.

Mac loves stuff like what you have, and your great GPA and test scores will make you very competitive. I'd say you've got a good chance. I want to go to Macalester as well, and I don't think it will be too hard for me to get in, since I have pretty good grades and a lot of EC's. My main problem is FinAid. I come from an upper middle class white family, so I don't know how much aid I'm going to get. I am going to have a chat with the financial aid counselors there, but for right now, it's pretty much up in the air for me. Mac is my definete first choice though, and I'm hopefully going to apply early decision, so we'll see whart happens. Any thoughts on financial aid there from anybody? I've heard they're pretty generous.

you're in...duh

look at test scores! Nice :-P

Macalesterwishes, I also worry about financial aid. I don't really know how generous they are, and i don't want to burden my family too much. I hope that everything will work out for you.
