I was wondering if this scholarship (which appears to be around $10k-$15k annually) is prestigious and how selective it is to receive it at Macalester?

How good do your stats have to be for the merit scholarship? I didn’t expect (nor did I get), but it looks like everyone got something except for me lol.

Hardest possible schedule: 90 unweighted average, but 96.5 unweighted for senior year with 12 total AP classes (the max), and the rest honors)

I am the president of the school, Model Congress, Key Club, Hebrew Culture Club ( I’m Korean-American and the first non-Jewish President), Vice-President of DECA( 4x State qualifier and 2x top 10 medalist), Associate Editor of the school paper, and Secretary of National Honor Society. I’m on 3 varsity sports, captain of 2, and all-county for the two. In the top choral and orchestra group since freshman year, and all-county in both vocal and orchestral since middle school. I’ve been the leading violinist, violist, and bass( vocals), and I’ve been in leads for the musicals and plays since middle school.
@362400 , CC doesn’t provide a very representative sample of scholarship recipients. Most people on this site are high achievers/very invested in the college process. People are also more likely to post if they got in/received a scholarship. I personally got the $17,000 per year scholarship with a 31 ACT and a 4.0, so I think Mac uses a more holistic process when awarding scholarship money. You seem to be highly qualified, though… Maybe they thought you’d never attend with such high stats?
I got a scholarship but I think it was mainly for my volunteer work and leadership positions.
@wishful2015 Probably the second too. See you there, I hope!
Also, what does your sampler invite look like? My friends who got in didn’t get an invite to the sampler, even though they got scholarships too, and the letter mentions meeting diversity profs/staff… is it only for minorities? Or is it something else?
@362400 Are you a NMF? I think that’s the criteria. If you are, IDK why you didn’t get merit, maybe your app wasn’t unique enough? Although you seem like a busy busy man so I doubt it.
@salter Yay! I hope to see you there too! I found my invite in the same place where I found my scholarship information.
@wishful2015
Does yours say that they’ll pay for travel expenses? And that you’ll get the chance to meet diversity staff?
59 Ashley: I have been reading old threads and it looks like wait list use varies quite a bit. Some years no one comes off, other years Mac goes deeply into the wait list. There was one year many kids said yes and the freshman class was way bigger than expected. I am not sure how you can predict what this year will look like. Was Mac written up favorably in a review the year of the big bubble? idk Put your name on the list, but be realistic and be making other plans at the same time. Good luck.
@salter Yes, my invitation does say that they will pay for my flight and transportation.
Hello everyone, my son received an acceptance email March 15th.
The financial info/breakdown was also emailed with my son’s acceptance email. I believe he had to log in to the portal to access all that info.
Accepted with DeWitt scholarship!
International student here, wait listed. Looking at the stats of others here, I’m surprised I was even wait listed. I only got 1890 on my SATs, I’ve applied for financial aid and my IB predicted grade is 31, but that’s excluding the points for EE and stuff.
International here. Waitlisted. Some years have been great for waitlisted students and I can only hope now. Should I send an additinal letter reinstating my interest in the school?
No expert here, but I would send a letter expressing your interest and updating your resume if there is anything new to report.
