Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): N/A
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I’m not really sure what this means?

Reflection
Strengths: Good writing, good test scores, great grade trend, semester abroad in high school, interview
Weaknesses: GPA, I didn’t cure cancer in my spare time
Why you think you were accepted: I think my essays were excellent and very personable. The writing sample didn’t hurt. Plus I got great recs from teachers who had enough time to write well.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Tufts (denied), Reed (accepted), Dickinson (accepted), Northeastern (accepted)

General Comments:
The average accepted GPA for Mac from my school is a 3.36, so take my stats with a grain of salt.

Decision: Accepted (RD)

Other:
State: Colorado
School Type: public school
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): upper middle
Hooks: IB perhaps?

Reflection:
Strengths: I would consider my writing strong, and I really focused on my global perspective and interests. Decent test scores, ACT reading score, good extracurriculars. Full IB diploma. Female competitive debater.
Weaknesses: I submitted an app because it was free and looked interesting. Hardly any knowledge of the school. I have never even been to Minnesota. My college selection process was kind of by the seat of my pants.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly had no idea they were so selective. I needed another liberal arts school so I gave it a try. I think it was because I showed I was a great fit, with my international focus and learning philosophy.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: Regis University, University of Denver, University of Portland, University of Wyoming
Rejected: Vanderbilt

General Comments:
I looked into Macalester a little more after getting accepted, and it looks like a great school. Huge turn off was location, cost, and quality of the debate team. I’m attending Regis and couldn’t be happier. I hope everyone has a wonderful time! I’m going to decline right after this so someone can get off the waitlist :)

accepted Carleton, U. Chicago, Wash St. Louis, Case Western, Carnegie Mellon, Rochester----

wait listed Macalester, Miami, Denison University and Bowling Green—so go figure
