Macalester to LSE or Oxford

I'm currently a freshman at Macalester. I'm originally from England but moved here when I was 5, and both my parents are from the UK. At the age of 18, i'm a bit disgruntled with US culture, and my best friend is going to be in London. I'm a potential poli sci major, and I was wondering how difficult it would be for me to transfer to LSE or Oxford.

I have no idea what my 1st semester GPA is, but my SAT score was a 1420 (800v/620m), and I have numerous 5s on AP tests.

Thanks.

ok, I assume LSE means London School of Economics, and I know nothing about them other than the fact that McJagger went there. I have never heard of anyone transferring to Oxford and think the reason for that is because they do not accept transfers. But that's just what I heard somewhere.

oxford doesnt accept transfers.

I know a few people who transfered to the LSE. They all went on the general course after 2 years of U.S. college and then applied as a transfer for their last year. So that means you would have to get into the general course, make good grades, and tell them you want to transfer. If it all goes through you will finish in a normal four year period. Two here, two at LSE. I dont know anyone who has done the general course during their sopohmore year.

UK schools are 3 years and LSE does not allow transfers into the final year. Perhaps your the General Course did not count as 2nd year entry and they basically "waisted" a year if you can even call it that. even so, it sounds like a great opportunity...do u know what kind of grades u need to get in?

Yeah, it does not really count as a third year transfer becasue you will have already spent a year there.
But of course, this is the university's offical response
"Can I transfer to LSE to complete my degree after studying on the General Course?

This is very difficult to do and not encouraged by the School. If you are seriously considering transferring you should speak to your home institution before contacting the Student Recruitment Office at gc@lse.ac.uk for further information."

But, as I stated earlier, I know of kids who have transfered .
More info about the general course can be found at http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/generalCourse/

As for getting in, I can't generalize. All I can say is that the people I knew, who did the course in the past two years, came from Kalamazoo college, Columbia, Wake Forest, Colby, and BC (thats off the top of my head). But to be clear, this is a very limited sample, I don't know their gpa's, SAT's, etc... only that they loved the LSE and that they went during their junior year.

Hope this helps.

LSE is very well regarded as is oXford obvioulsy go for it, even if you dont get in your still at a great school

I know LSE is not too difficult to apply for exchange. Maybe a way to get you foot in the door?
