what's the scoop? i'm in at both. possible international studies major.

Carleton was my first choice. Mac was my second. Expected field: international relations or religion. I really liked Mac's location in the Cities, the admissions officer was nicer (for what it's worth), and the food was better. Many of the aspects were the same with Carleton, and Macalester has an outstanding int'l relations program. So why did I end up at Carleton: 1) the people seemed more human (nicer?), with a passion to learn but also interest in extracurriculars. 2) Carleton's trimester schedule seems superior to any other. 3) all of the Carleton professors that I met were both geniuses and extremely passionate/kind. 4) Northfield. 5) really good poli sci/language department as well.

Academically, I think there are few differences. Macalester is for the uber-liberal, urban type. Carleton is its 75% equivalent for the geekier yet more involved, small-town type [though Northfield is unlike most small towns].

thank you for the detailed response, i'll keep that in mind.
