D (wants to be a veterinarian at the moment) was accepted by six schools (Macalester, Chapman, UCSC, Puget Sound, Oregon SU, Redlands) and is going to visit Macalester and Chapman this week. Macalester is the most competitive school she got into, but Chapman is an up and coming university and it’s opening a new science complex this fall. She’s pretty shy but has a mind of her own. Not into Greek life (which is big at Chapman) but she’s attracted to the great internships the college offers. She’s dual national so I think Macalester could be a good fit with its large international body. She doesn’t want to go to UCSC because it’s too close to home. I know Macalester and Chapman are apples and oranges (2000 vs 6000 ug) but if anyone has considered the pros and cons of each I’d like to hear about it. Also Chapman gave her much more merit aid than Macalester, but at this point I’d her to go where she’ll be happiest. She’s WL at UC-Davis, which has one of the best pre-vet programs in the country, but knows that the WL stats are not in her favor. Insights/advice welcome!
