I want to major in economics and I have been reading several posts about this two colleges. As far as I have read, Mac has a stronger econ department but grinnell is more prestigious overall. I really don't care about the weather and the isolated characteristic of Grinnell. I like active classes where I can take part of interesting debates. I am very hard-working and want to attend the college that can prepare me the most for getting a BA or a PhD. Both have offered me great FA and are my two big choices. I am an international student, by the way.

Not sure about that. I posted this on another thread and hope this helps you. Grinnell has one of the best econ programs around. In fact they rank number two for graduating future phd’s per capita in econ.

Both schools have lots of international students. Grinnell is ranked higher and is more prestigious, but you should also consider the fit.

Anyway, I posted the below to show you how great Grinnell is in regards to various departments, one being economics.

First, please do not equate USNWR’s rankings with prestige in deciding which college to attend. “Prestige” only really applies to a few American universities - Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, MIT, Stanford.

Macalester has a very good economic department and the students also have great access to internships at a variety of businesses throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

In any event, you cannot go wrong at either institution.

Congratulations on your fantastic college choices and hope i can provide useful information
