I was wondering whether I shud go to Grinnell or Macalester, so which of them is the better for a math/economics/physics major and as an overall liberal arts college?
Also I have been wait-listed sum where else, so if I pay my deposit at Mac., can I later go sumwhr else? Please reply ASAP

You're looking for an answer that doesn't really exist. Both are very good schools. Macalester has strong econ, math, and physics departments, but I don't know anything about Grinnell's.
The major difference between the schools is location. Otherwise, you're going to get a great education at either. I don't think that anyone can say that one is absolutely better than the other.
You can pay the deposit and then back out from any school.

I'd think Grinnell is a bit more rigorous in both Math and Physics. By this, I mean: as a Math/Physics major, you'd need more self-motivation at Mac to get the same breadth of education in these fields as you would at Grinnell.

c.p, if you want to study Econ and supplement it with Math/Phys, I'd definitely choose Mac.

if you want a more secluded academic pressure-cooker environment for Math/Phys, I'd go with Grinnell.

I just think, provided you are self-motivated, the differences in the departments are small enough that you should be focusing on other factors.
