My son applied to Macaulay Honors, 1st choice Baruch and 2nd choice City College. He has 97.7% average from NYC specialized high school. He’s been accept to Baruch for regular admission but rejected from City College. We will appeal with City College this week. My question is which institution makes the Macaulay Admission decision? Macaulay or Baruch and City College?
I’m concern that Macaulay honors decisions are made before we can figure out what happened with City college regular admission so that if he isn’t selected for Macaulay at Baruch, he will have no chance at Macaulay at City College.
I would call Macaulay Honors College admissions to ask. My Hunter acceptance letter (my 1st Macaulay choice) said I could accept general admittance to Hunter “while you wait for your Macaulay decision” so I am not sure if that means Hunter is making the decision or if they are waiting to hear from Macaulay to know.
I thought your son’s application status for CCNY was “complete and being reviewed.” Did he receive an update that he was rejected? That wouldn’t make any sense with his stats. Please keep us posted once you contact them. My daughter with similar stats ranked CCNY 1st and Hunter 2nd on her Macaulay app. So far, all she’s gotten is a regular acceptance to Hunter (on Feb. 5th), and her application to CCNY is “complete and being reviewed.” Does this mean she will likely be rejected?
His status on the portal is something like “complete and you will hear from the school shortly” and he received his rejection email Friday. The email stated “based on his overall academic record” as the reason.
He’s scheduled an appointment with Admissions at City College and emailed his guidance counselor.
The portal showed he attended two high schools (he didn’t) so it has to be a clerical mistake.
You are such a supporting parent. More power to you!. I hope your son gets in to Macaulay at his college of choosing. Btw, I also applied to Hunter and did my interview last month with Macaulay at Hunter. My email also said “Your application is complete. You will be hearing from the college shortly", so don’t lose hope. It doesn’t mean that he’s rejected. You will hear back from Macaulay on march 22nd.
I emailed Macaulay and they confirmed that general freshmen decisions have no effect on Macaulay Honors decision. They are reviewed by different admission committees but I find it odd that potentially one can get into Macaulay at City College but was rejected from City College regular admission. So we’ll see. I replied back about removing the extra transcript and did not get a reply back.
My son email one of the Assistant Director of Admission at City College but haven’t heard back yet. I wish they would at least respond that they’ve received the email…
Yes Macaulay is March 22nd.The acceptances are for the general admissions, you can see if you got in on the cunyfirst portal if they didn’t send you an email. The general admission acceptance is separate from Macaulay. You can get in general to a school and be turned down for Macaulay for that school and still attend, just not the Macaualay program.
Does anyone here receive a rejection email from Hunter with an offer called “The Hunter Promise”? It states that I need to get an associate degree from a cuny community college with a GPA of 2.5 above and then admission is guaranteed.
In general from past results, do you have any idea what macaulay looks most for in their applicants?
My brother (who was salutadorian) got rejected but he was accepted to Cornell so I’m wondering if they prioritize their essays the most.
When I did my interview, they mentioned that knowing what you want to major in and do after undergrad is important. The director also said that the essays and rec letters were important. They didn’t really care much about ranks.
