Macaulay Honors College-any insights?

Hi,

I am a rising senior, and I have a pretty difficult financial aid situation. I recently found out about the Macaulay Honors College and it seems like such a wonderful deal--free tuition, free laptop, free admission to attractions around the greatest city on earth, and a cultural connection to NYC; however, I am worried about the academics. Other than the four seminars, do you take classes with the non-honors students? And it also seems like a pre-professional school, especially for economics major, and I am more inclined to attend graduate school after I get my undergraduate degree, so I would be nervous about the quality of graduate school I would be able to attend.

Thanks,
J

p.s. feel free to PM me if you have a longer message, I would love to chat about your experiences if you are a current student

Plenty of people have done great things from CUNYs.

Yes, but the majority of those are people who graduated decades ago

^ It’s pretty difficult to become a famous or well-known alum after just a couple years…

Anyway, my point is that CUNY has a long history of educating a wide variety of people. Some become successful, others less so. Same as any other college.

It never hurts to apply. Should you apply to this program and nothing else? Of course not. Is this a good possibility to consider? Sure.

I completely agree, sorry for being so cynical. It is definitely a great opportunity that I will look into, along with several other programs

If you’re looking for Honors Colleges + financial aid, UGA has a wonderful program called the Foundation Fellowship within its Honors College. Free tuition plus apprx. $9,000 a year for room/board and travel.
