Macaulay Honors College @ Hunter College

My S was offered an interview from the Macaulay Honors College @ Hunter College a few days ago. I don’t know much about MHC. Please educate me more about MHC. Any Alumni and current students at MHC-Hunter input and advice would be a great help.
My S wants to major in Biology with a plan for dental school in the future. Is MHC-Hunter a good school/program? How is it comparing to other schools in NYC and SUNY schools, i.e. Stony Brook University or Binghamton University? Especially in pre-dental track.

Thanks in advance.

Macaulay Honors is well-respected, and the graduates head successfully into the next stages of their lives. If there is specific concern about Dental School placement, your S should be able to find out details of placement rates from the various Pre-Dent programs on his list. If Dent School isn’t yet a definite life goal, your S should be looking at other focuses and career/grad school placement for those other fields of study as well. Dental School is hideously expensive, and so is setting up practice… Getting through the undergraduate years without any debt is something that Macaulay Honors might make possible, which would be a big plus if he is offered admission there. How affordable would the other options be?

We offered our S up 30K/year CoA for his undergrad. He will be on his own for grad schools. I don’t think S would get any need-based FA. Our adjust gross ~145K. Based on S stats (1500 SAT - 95 GPA), he might get some merits from private schools.

Run the Net Price Calculators at the websites of each of the places on his application list. They should be reasonably accurate provided the parents aren’t divorced/remarried, don’t own any property other than the family home, and don’t own a business. Dent School usually is paid for entirely with loans, meaning that the new dentist walks out with a huge amount of student debt. If your S lands the money at Macaulay, would you consider setting the savings aside for future Dent School costs?
