Macaulay Honors College

Hello,

I am applying to colleges this year and am unsure whether I should apply to macaulay honors college.

My interest is Computer Science. I guess I am wondering if Macaulay would be a good fit for me. Does anyone know about Macaulay or have any experience with it? I have looked at their website but have not found it that helpful. Can you major in anything through the Macaulay program? Do you just take classes from the different partner colleges in the subject area you are majoring in?

The general feeling I get from the Macaulay program is that it is more liberal arts oriented and not such a good option for the sciences. Is this correct?

Thanks for any advice or tips! :)

Does anyone here have any info about Macaulay?

Found this material in the FAQ’s:

“Each student creates a unique course of study, guided by over 200 majors and the Macaulay Advising Program (MAP), which encourages students to pursue research, service, and internship opportunities, in New York and around the world.”
“Macaulay students enroll at one of the eight participating CUNY campuses…While transfers between Macaulay campuses are discouraged, Macaulay students are welcome to take courses on any CUNY campus, including graduate courses at the CUNY Graduate Center. Many Macaulay students enroll in cross-campus and graduate courses.”

I suggest reading the full set of FAQ’s, especially the “Other Questions” section–lots of info there. Hope that helps.

You go to one of the CUNY colleges and the Macauley is an honors program that augments the college program.

City College is the most technically-oriented of the CUNYs, and it has ABET accredited Computer Science program, so that would be one to look at.

Staten Island is also ABET accredited for CS. However, I would imagine Staten Island would not be a very convenient location for getting to the Macauley building on the upper east side.

Hunter, Queens, and several others have CS as well. They are not ABET accredited, but that is not necessarily bad for CS. It is fairly common for schools without engineering to not get ABET accreditation for their CS programs.

So I don’t know too much about the majors in Macaulay Honors College, but I do know the benefits of getting into the program (sorry in advance, if you know this already)

It’s a free tuition for all four years
You get 7500 dollars for internships, research, and studying abroad
And you get a free laptop

hope this is an incentive for you to apply to macaulay!
