Macaulay Honors into Med School...

I just need some pointers because I'm starting to get extremely worried. I just enrolled in Queens College, got into Macaulay Honors and I've already set my schedule up for the fall. In terms of pre-med reqs, I'm taking Bio and Calculus this semester, but I here it's better to take those at a different university instead of a community college. I honestly don't know what to do at this point.

Should I stick through all 4 years at Queens with a chem major? Will that really hurt my chances at med school if I keep up a great GPA and a great MCAT score? If not, what do you recommend I do? I'm so lost, and I would really like some pointers so I can fix things before it's too late.

Thank you tons in advance.

You’re not at a community college so no issue there

Pretty sure Queens is a 4-year, which you even stated, so no it won’t hurt your chances.

Ugh, I didn’t mean community, I meant city college, sorry. I’ve been reading and I’m just getting scared that I’m gonna spend 4 years at school at have it be wasted.

Like, I’m not even aiming at Ivy Med Schools, but others like OSU or UMich. Will I be okay at this rate, or should I change my course?

I don’t think it’s a problem, the only thing I’ve heard admissions reps say about the matter was in regard to community colleges. If your worry is that Queens isn’t that high ranked of a UG, then getting a high GPA and a good MCAT will more than make up for it.

There are many people with brilliant careers in many fields who went through City College. Don’t worry about that at all. Just work hard! Those are tough classes.

if you have a high GPA and MCAT you’ll be fine. If you don’t, it wouldn’t matter if you went to a higher ranked school anyway.

You should share your concerns with your honors advisors who have experience in getting students into Med School. You may already know that you don’t have to be a Chem major to go to med school. Most Med Schools are looking for diversity of interests as you fulfill your pre-med prerequisites.

Macaulay Honors also has a vibrant pre-med club as well that you should find out more about. You have a full 4-year college career ahead of you. Take it one step at a time and you will be fine.

^how can I convince my school to pay me to post on their behalf? I spend enough time on here as it is.
