OMG, I can’t believe this debate is still going on… despite the Mac’s rising (and fastest) marketshare in personal computers.

MacBook Air’s target market is NOT college students; that’s what the MacBook is for (MacBook Pro is pushing it). For many folks, MBA is going to be second computer or for the executive/business road warrior. This laptop is not at all student friendly, but nor was it intended to be.

If you want all-in-one practicality, then get a MacBook/MacBook Pro. If you want ultra portability in a stylish-slim package, then the MacBook Air is for you. Quite frankly, as a college student, I’m extremely pleased with my MBP and wouldn’t trade it in the world for a MBA. However, for my dad, the MBA is a godsend compared to his ThinkPad T61 (he uses almost none of it’s features).

the Lenovo X300 series that was leaked seems like it’ll be focused towards the same market, almost as small but without compromising the optical drive, ethernet, and multiple USB ports. actually it has a lot more ports compared to the macbook air. in addition the battery can be replaced without having to send it into the company whereas the macbook air will need to be sent to Apple to get replaced. the only thing that hasn’t been leaked out of course is the price so who knows how it’ll compared to the macbook air on price but if it’s only a bit more expensive than the macbook air, and i were the target audience i’d definitely get the x300 just based on features.
