I'm a senior in highschool this year but my computer died a couple weeks ago so my mom wants to get me a laptop now that'll last through college also. As of now we're debating between the MacBook Pro 15" and 13". What do most people in college have? Would I look ridiculous with a 15" in class? Will I have wished I got the 15" if I choose the 13"? The 15" concerns me because its heavier and not as portable. With the 13" I'm afraid ill have wanted more screen space. Suggestions?

The 13 is absolutely perfect. My bro has one and the screen space is great and the mobility is better. 15" is overkill

I would go with the 13" for more portability (or even the Air).

13" strikes me as pretty small. My Dell is a 17" and doesn’t even seem that big.

In the Macs, most people seem to have 13", but for PCs 15" seems to be the standard. The prices on the Macs probably plays some role in that.
Either one should get the job done, but pick the one that’s more comfortable for you. Go check out both sizes at a store and see which feels like a better fit.
If you are worried about limited screen size for bigger projects, you can get a 21" monitor for your desk for <$100, which can also double for watching Netflix/Hulu/having friends over.

My daughter has the 13-inch; has had it since graduating high school in 2011. Knock wood, but it has done a great job for her, and its with her on a study abroad program right now. As a PC user, I dream of getting one for myself some day. I know she does more than just her homework on it, too… lots of video streaming, etcetera. Good luck with your decision. It’s not easy with so many choices.

I think 13" is fine

I think a 13 inches is the perfect size. You can always buy a cheap extra monitor if you want more screen space.

13" is what I have. I see students with 15" and it’s just an additional cost that looks too ridiculously big

15+ is overwhelming, especially with the Retina Display - you don’t want to be toting around a miniature cinema when going in between classes; the 13 seems to be the standard for college students - the 13 inch MBA will even suffice in most cases.

I have a 15" late 2011 MBP and it really isn’t that bad. It might just be because I’m used to it but I don’t find it too restricting in terms of portability.

I have friends with both sizes. It seems that the general opinion is that the 15" is massive and basically just a pain to carry around. If you’re going to have to do a decent amount of walking and toting it around, the 13" is a no-brainer. The screen space is no big deal - it still looks great.
