Which one?

Macbook Pro 17"
Lenovo Thinkpad T60 15"
Alienware Aurora m970 17" or Aurora mALX 19"

Which one?

Macbook Pro 17"
Lenovo Thinkpad T60 15"
Alienware Aurora m970 17" or Aurora mALX 19"

I'm planning on going with a MacBook Pro (15.4"), but I don't plan to do any gaming or run any intensive apps.

Is a 17" screen really necessary? From what I've heard, it gets to be a hassle for transportation.

Macbook Pro!

I only use alien or self-built..... Although the Macbook pro is awesome, alienware is a name I know I can trust as well (that and I dont like the idea of moving into that os)

Lenovo Thinkpad T60

Whatever you do, don't buy an Alienware.

Macbook Pro FTMFW

go with the macbook pro. i have a 15" powerbook that i bought last august and i love it. you will need at least 1gb of ram but don't buy the extra ram from apple. its so much more expensive if you buy it from them and is incredibly easy to install yourself.

Hey, I was in the same boat as you.
Here is what i drew up, im hoping this helps.

The T60- While not widescreen, you get the name of IBM..errrr lenovo. While thats going to be a PC that you use for basics, you know word, internet, adult websites, school, work ect ect ect. This would have been my choice but like i said your paying for outdated equipment.

The Mac Book- Nice. Very Nice. Very expensive. College there is alot that can happen stolen, water, fire, blah blah blah. Last time i checked the Pro (17 i think) was about 2500-2700 for the pro, and software and some ram and warranty. Ouch. Only get this if your into design editing, as your major, not your hobby. Converting is huge. People blow it off like its nothing, its not, and sometimes the programs that do convert wont convert everything.

Alienware- Im stating this now, I bought this one out of the 3, so sorry if it sounds biased which im trying not to make it. First, I wanted light, real light so i picked up the sentia 12". Yes 12" I too thought it was dinky, but its SOOOOO perfect. I can take it anyware. I got that 1g 2yrs warranty, 2.0 processor and 80 7200 HD and i mean at most word takes 2 seconds to load, all the others are almost instant. This cost me what 1,500? No to shabby. People honestly dislike alienware because either they had problems (all comps do, you cant hide from it.) Or simply thay cant fork out the cash to get one.

So Get the T60 if your really budget priced, but you wont get alot for your money. Get the Mac Book if your into design and have a TON of cash. Get the alienware if you have some cash but not alot, and want up-to-date internals.

Hopes this helped.

Lenovo.
Mac's are macs and my friend has had a lot of problems with his three grand Alienware laptop (hardware problems and over a month to have it fixed).

Also, if you go past 15" you had might as well just get a desktop.

Tooya you use self-built laptops? That seems like it would be a hassle to make + more expensive than purchasing a pre-made one.

Get a Falcon Northwest laptop, if you have enough money to shell out for an Alienware.

So Get the T60 if your really budget priced

Since when is any Lenovo Thinkpad "budget priced?"

Haha.

Go with the macbook 15" and upgrade it to 1gb ram... it is insane...

I'd say that 1 GB is minimum. Consider 2 GB if you plan on it being "future proof" for any length of time.

the T60 is the computer my school is offering through their program that requires everyone to have a laptop.

I'd still say get the mac though.

Avoid the Alienware. It's basically paying 3.5x what the computer is actually worth.

Apple and IBM/Lenovo are both good makes as far as reliability and tech support. I'd go with the Mac, personally (read the thread about switching to Mac for reasons why) but if you insist on a Windows laptop the T60 is probably the way to go here.

Who said you have to run Windows on a Thinkpad T60?

Amen, MacTech!

tommorow new apple's are supposed to be coming out. so id hold on till then.
