I'm looking for advice on my new laptop. I am a business major and I do not mind using bootcamp to run windows 7 on a mac for programs such as minitab.

Anyways, I'm debating between a

Macbook Pro 13" base model, 2.4 ghz C2D, 4 GB ram, nvidia 330, 10 hr battery lifeetc. $1099

If you’re used to using OSX, get the Macbook Pro. If you prefer Windows, then you should get the Vaio. They’re both very good laptops. If you are interested, you should also check out the new HP Envy 14 (starts at $999).

Haha, don’t believe everything you hear. I’m currently typing on a 5-6 year old HP Pavilion, and it’s been working great the whole time. Plus, the Envys are HP’s premium laptops, so you can expect better-than-average build quality.

My Vaio runs great. If you prefer Windows naturally, I would definitely go with it. While you may not need it now, the i5 will last you longer than the C2D will. And I can’t really see a reason for needing more than a 6 hour battery life, unless you’re playing games, in which case you wouldn’t be using a Mac anyway.

also with the envy 14 when it comes out (june 27th) it comes with i3 or i5, ati radeon 5650 graphics card (1gb video card) aluminum casing (like the macbook pros), and has a battery life projected to last up to 7 hours. starting price: $999.

I originally wanted a vaio, but after hearing about envy 14 and the new dv5’s i’m starting to change my mind. Both now comes with aluminum bodies and start cheaper or for about the same price for better specs.

No, HP always (I mean it) exaggerates their battery life. You’re going to get about 4 hrs simple use on the integrated graphics without the extra battery. With the slice battery you can expect about 8 hrs on integrated graphics. When you switch to dedicated battery you cut your battery life by about a half.

Go with Macbook Pro if you need lots battery life. This uses an integrated 320m gfx
Go with Vaio Cw if you need the good graphics power. This uses a power hungry dedicated 330m gfx

IMO: go with the mac since you will use boot camp anyway. The 320m is very powerful for an integrated graphic.
