MacBook vs. subnotebook/tablet

I've used Macs most of my life. I love everything about my Mac, except for the price (and the fact that you can't get service on a desktop with-in 200 miles of where I live). I'm an Elementary Education major, who is also a trained photographer (was a photojournalism major and changed my mind half way through!), so in addition to writing tons papers, I also run photoshop, indesign and illustrator. I also do a bit of video and audio editing. Granted, I don't do this stuff as much as I used to, but I still do it. I don't "have" to have a Mac anymore, as most schools and my education department are all PC based.

I'm starting to look for a replacement for my aging Mac Mini, preferably something portable. I'm mostly going to be writing papers, surfing the internet, and doing some basic design/photo editing work. I do like smaller laptops (I love 12-inchers, but will take up to a 14.1 inch), so that's why I'm look more so at the subnotebook category. I know I could dual/tri-boot a Macbook, so that's a big advantage for it, but I have the feeling I could get a PC that would do what I wanted for much cheaper (I'm looking at the middle level Macbook). What's going to be my best bet?

If you like small and light, the Macbook is a good bet...

However, you should also look at the Lenovo X series and T series.

you can't beat a macbook (white 13") for the price...and the best screen in the market is a plus. though i don't like their keyboards.
