Mace/Pepper Spray at USC?

Just wondering whether it's OK to have Mace or Pepper Spray for self-defense at USC--anyone with knowledge? We're thinking of buying a can for our incoming freshmen. Anyone know if it's OK for them to have it on campus? Both plan will live in the dorms.

It's probably only allowed if it's kept in possession to defend from UCLA kids, hehe.

I would call up residence life if I were you (800-872-4632). It might sound like a weird question to ask, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Even though I doubt there would be consequences.

I've seen a couple people on campus with pepper spray on their key chains, and occasionally when the tents set up around Trousdale to sell bags, sunglasses, popcorn, etc. there's usually one that says Pepper Spray in big, bold letters. So I'm assuming, yes, they're allowed.

We used to have pepper spray in the house because my mom worked in a bad part of town. My brother sprayed it in his face, and that was the end of that...Haha.

Definitely not a weird question. Just ask.

Why in the world would your brother spray his own face? Was he very young or very drunk? Did he have to be rushed to ER thereafter?

if you're going to have it in the dorms definitely call DPS and housing and ask if it's OK. I see people with it so it probably is.

As long as you can have pepperspray, can you have bear-grade pepper spray? I mean to really knock 'em out!

Some of my friends carry pepperspray around with them and say that it's OK to have it, though I can't imagine why you would need it if you're living on campus.

"Why in the world would your brother spray his own face?"

Yeah, he was like 6 or 7. If you ask me still too old to be doing that, but hey. Haha. My FOB grandmother freaked out, called 911 and tried to explain what happened in broken English. When the paramedics came they just gave him a popsicle and left.

So I guess it's really not that dangerous?

They try and make it have as little permanent effects as possible but it can still be very dangerous and cause permanent damage in some cases. It is a weapon, essentially, and shouldn't be taken lightly...

Wouldn't it be annoying to carry a huge can of pepper spray in your pocket when you're walking around? I'd rather have a knife, but that probably isn't allowed.
