Machine Graders.

Please be as unbiased as possible while answering this. I'm sure someone crying about getting a low score and blaming it on the fact a machine grades the SAT is misleading. Pretend this is your own actually experience happening to yourself.

To sum up shortly, I've done over 15 (math section only) practice tests, including all tests in the blue book. Not only have i done so many tests, but i have a private tutor and attended a kaplan course.

My Score started at X at my very first practice test. Every test after my first test went up a little, about 10 points each. My final practice math sections was equated to about a X+80-X+120.

Once i recieved my score, both my writing and reading was on par with the norm. On the contrary, my math score ended up at X. That score negates all the hard work i've done with tutors, practice tests, and kaplan courses. I've even scored higher on a kaplan administered math section than I did on the real one. ** Since the math section is the only one i take super seriously, i circled the QUESTION NUMBER ON THE ANSWER SHEET TO INDICATE WHETER I WAS UNSURE OR IF I SHOULD RETURN TO DOUBLE CHECK MY ANSWER.

My question: Can circling the answer number and making marks in that general area mess up the machine grader?**

ps: Please be unbiased and pretend this is your own scenario, thank you.

yes. it can.

got $50 to spare?

It really depends on what x is… if you had a 700 before, yes it’s possible to go from a 790 back down to a 700. It really depends on how dark your circling was, but if you’re really that worried, I’d get it hand graded.

x is below 700

It’s one thing to bold. Another to underline. And crazy to italicize. You did all three.

Either you are not as smart as you convinced yourself you are or your marks on the scantron (which, makes no sense) messed you up… big time.

Get it hand graded. :)

thx for replies im going to get it hand graded. also i dont think i scored x+100 but i circled about 5 questions so i think its very possible to be around x+50

I question the intelligence of anyone who thinks that it’s a good idea to make additional marks on the answer sheet.

Yes, it can, and it will.

This is very hard to do, as I would never do such a stupid thing. However, if my body were to somehow suddenly become possessed at some point during the five hours during which I was taking the SAT and make such marks on the answer sheet and then somehow prevent me from erasing them, I would know for sure walking out of the testing room that I would be fvcked.

I’d laugh if the grade went down by the hand grader.

Well, if he designates his score with an x, you can obviously assume that it’s not the best score in the world.

X must really suck if you need euphemisms.

the whole x+80-x+120 comes out to -40. So, I’d love to know exactly what he meant. Ya dig?

I think it’s the “smart” way of saying an 80 to 120 point increase?

next time make marks in your test booklet…
If it’s not that big of a difference, perhaps you just got some wrong?

Why would you circle it on the answer sheet? ARE YOU CRAZY?
Do it on the test booklet.

During my January testing I also circled on the answer sheets and put some notes next to questions I couldnt answer so that I could come back after finish the rest .However,I erased all the notes & signs at the beginning of the 10-minute writing section :)

well let us know the results after you get it hand graded…
