On the Ross site it says that Macro is part of the sophomore schedule. Can you take it as a freshman, or do they say its better to take it sophomore year? Do many take it if they let you?

I’m not an expert on Ross requirements, but from what I understand you’re not technically enrolled in Ross as a freshman; you’d just be a normal LSA student. So there’d be no reason you couldn’t take Macro as a freshman.

You can take it as a freshman, but you should wait until sophomore year.

why would you wait till sophomore year? It’s one of the easiest classes at U of M… you want it to count as 4.4 instead of a 4.0?

lol bearcats, stop. macroecon is easy material but but i wouldn’t bank on getting an A+ in it. but yea, take it freshmen year… especially if an econ major is your fallback plan. also, dont take it with kimball. trust me.

bearcats - if he takes it freshman year, then it will count as a 4.0 for an A+. Furthermore, your GPA gets reset when you enter Ross, so freshman GPA doesn’t count. Therefore, he would be better off taking it sophomore year. Plus, taking it sophomore year will help offset the GPA hit from ACC 271 - you certainly can’t bank on an A in that class by any means.

that is exactly what I meant. I was wondering if the reason you told him to take it sophomore year was for the sake of getting that 4.4 instead of 4.0…
I think macro’s curve was extremely generous and getting an A+ is obviously not automatic but it’s not hard either just because of the sheer number of clueless kids in that class.

I actually believe that if you get 102 out of the way frosh year, you would then be eligible to take the easy peasy 300 level classes taught by vinay ramini. And by easy peasy I do mean easy peasy. I took all 3 300 level classes with him and it’s basically econ 101 and 102 put in different context. Got A to A+ for all 3 classes and never showed up for one lecture. Your entire grade would be based on 2 really trivial exams. You could use those classes to offset ACC 271… by the way 271 isnt that bad… not as easy as other Ross classes but isn’t that hard either.
